In the context of the Horizontal Taskforce on FinTech and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT), the European Parliament has mandated the European Commission to implement a Pilot project in order to build up technical expertise and regulatory capacity. The European Commission has proposed a pilot project on the blockchain with the intention of bettering its regulation.
The draft communication was addressed to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Central Bank, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions. In the report, it said that a pilot project would be aimed at reinforcing the capacity and technical expertise of national regulators regarding the distributed ledger technology.
